what we did
FIRST ® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a national not-for-profit that fosters STEM interest in kids ages 6-18 through hands-on robotics competitions. Cone developed a strategic communications plan around the 2017 FIRST® Championship to generate awareness and brand recognition of FIRST as a program stimulating students’ interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields; inspire team creation and highlight the importance of mentorship by educators and professionals. Cone leveraged national and regional media relationships to secure impactful coverage in mainstream, educator-, business- and STEM-focused outlets; developed three video series onsite; managed FIRST’s social media properties throughout Championship; and staffed both four-day events in St. Louis, Missouri and Houston, Texas.
HOW WE MADE A DIFFERENCE
- Secured print, online and broadcast placements totaling nearly 2.2 billion impressions since partnering with FIRST in 2004
- Positioned FIRST leadership as STEM education innovators through conferences and speaking events
- Drove national visibility for FIRST’s mission in top tier outlets, including NPR, GMA & CNN, and educator-focused outlets such as Education Week and Scholastic
- Created valuable partnerships to get FIRST content into the hands of educators, business leaders and parents
