From app-enabled tea kettles to printers that can make cookies, technology is changing our everyday lives. Now, these innovations are not only simplifying consumers' lives, but also streamlining how they engage with social issues. Companies on the leading edge of technology advances are pushing the boundaries of how individuals interact with issues they care about, seamlessly integrating philanthropy and support into things we do every day. This week, Whirlpool has launched a technology that does just that.
This week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Whirlpool announced its newest product, the Whirlpool Smart Top Load Washer and Dryer, with a social impact element. The new washer/dryer is technology-enabled for customizable cycles and optimized energy savings, but also to help those in need through its Connect to Care program. By using the Whirlpool Mobile app, consumers can convert each load of laundry into a donation to longstanding nonprofit partner Habitat for Humanity. Consumers simply use the app to designate a donation amount with each load and the app automatically triggers a donation.
As technology evolves, so too do the ways we can harness innovations for social impact. In the past few years, we've seen apps and add-ons trigger donations or reward actions when we run, shop and eat. Companies like Whirlpool are taking this a step further, seamlessly tying donations into the products we use every day, essentially instilling giving into routine actions and empowering consumers to make a continuous impact. Now, thanks to technology, giving to a cause is as simple as doing a load of laundry.
