Cone LLC Adds Additional Seasoned Cause Branding Veterans

Discipline Poised for Continued Innovation and Growth
Hurley, Mann, Breslau add nearly four decades of experience

BOSTON (March 3, 2010) – Cone LLC today announces the hire of Senior Vice President Patricia Hurley and Director Chris Mann, who have joined the agency’s Cause Branding discipline, as well as Vice President Heather Mulcahy Breslau, who played a leadership role on several of the agency’s past cause programs, and who has strong brand marketing experience as well.

Patricia rejoins Cone as an SVP to lead some of the agency’s largest accounts, including the American Cancer Society (ACS). Chris will work with Patricia as the day-to-day lead for the ACS.

“Cone continues to build and strengthen our leadership in Cause Branding,” says Jens Bang, President and CEO of Cone LLC. “Patricia and Chris bring nearly 30 years of experience working on both the agency and corporate sides, and they join a veteran group of colleagues.”

Cone LLC is known for groundbreaking initiatives including the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women, Avon’s Breast Cancer Crusade and for expanding programs such as Yoplait’s Save Lids to Save Lives. The agency’s breadth of talent and experience allows Cone LLC to offer a wide spectrum of cause-related services, ranging from cause marketing to cause consulting.

Prior to joining Cone LLC, Patricia served as a senior consultant at Cause Consulting, providing strategic counsel and program development to a variety of corporate and nonprofit organizations. She has also held leadership positions in the areas of public relations, creative, marketing communications and community relations in New York at Burson-Marsteller, where she served as the associate creative director, and at Barnes & Noble, where she was named the retailer’s first national director of community relations.

This is Patricia’s third tenure with Cone LLC. She was previously an account director and senior vice president. During her time with the agency she was instrumental in helping to shape the Cause Branding discipline in its early days through her involvement in developing the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade.

Chris joins Cone LLC from the Brand Marketing group at New Balance, where he developed strategies for its brand, including apparel and cause-based initiatives. He led and managed a wide range of event sponsorships, media and PR initiatives, retail programs and special product lines aimed at raising brand awareness and purchase intent among New Balance’s target consumers. Chris also spent six years with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund, where he held various event-based fundraising positions.

Heather Mulcahy Breslau returns to Cone LLC from the Chief Operating Officer post at Merida, which specializes in custom carpeting. In her seven previous years at Cone, she participated in the launch and implementation of brand marketing and cause initiatives, including the JCPenney Afterschool program and the Jockey Being Family adoption program.

“We are continuing to build a new generation of initiatives in a world that is demanding accountability, transparency and responsibility from business,” said Cone LLC President and CEO Jens Bang.

Today, Cone LLC has evolved to focus on five core disciplines that help organizations succeed in this more challenging business environment. In addition to Cause Branding and Nonprofit Marketing, the agency offers expertise in Brand Marketing, Corporate Responsibility and Crisis Prevention and Management. This unique mix enables Cone LLC to help clients build and execute communications and marketing initiatives that are responsive to the changed expectations of consumers, employees and other stakeholders.

“For cause programs to reach their full potential today, they should be integrated with responsible business practices and issue management, as well as with communications that engage stakeholders in an ongoing dialogue,” said Alison DaSilva, Executive Vice President of Cone LLC and a 12-year veteran of the agency’s cause work. “That’s why we have focused on these specific disciplines, and increasingly focused on using social media as part of the communications mix. In the end, it is all about building trust.”

Cone LLC’s mid-size profile allows the agency to offer clients more senior-level attention than is typical of larger agencies. With most of its staff based at its Boston headquarters, Cone LLC has been able to nurture a strong culture while serving a prestigious client list with initiatives that have global reach.
