Marketing Strategies Engage New Business Partners


Boston (March 18, 2009) – Cone’s Brand Marketing and Corporate Responsibility groups are welcoming new companies into the Cone family, and current clients are expanding work across several Cone disciplines. The success of Cone’s business development activities has helped the agency exceed its first quarter revenue expectations, thanks largely to clients increasingly seeking media relations-related support.


“The agency is experiencing a lot of organic growth right now, and we know that it is a result of our continued commitment to provide our clients with superior communications strategies,” says Jens Bang, president and CEO of Cone. “In addition, despite the current economy and often decreasing budgets, we are seeing companies continue to invest in their fundamental marketing activities and even increasing their commitment.”


Long-time Cause Branding client Western Union is expanding its relationship with the agency. After the success of the Cone-developed Our World, Our Family launch, Western Union increased Cone’s role to include media relations work for Western Union Payment Services and the launch of Western Union Yes!, the first global brand campaign in the company’s 155-year history.


Current Cause Branding client L’Oreal recently awarded Cone all the media relations work surrounding its cause initiative. The win came after a competitive bid against L’Oreal’s incumbent media agency, Edelman.


Cone also looks forward to providing media relations support for Guayakí, a Market Driven Restoration company that links consumer purchases of healthy yerba mate products in North America with indigenous communities engaged in sustainable agriculture and reforestation projects in Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil. Media relations and influencer engagement work aims to drive awareness of the category of yerba mate, a beverage made from the leaves and stems of rainforest trees, to increase recognition of yerba mate and Guayakí in national consumer and trade media, as well as in key regional media.


On the Corporate Responsibility side, Cone was retained by EMC, the world's leading developer and provider of information infrastructure technology and solutions, to consult on the company's first fully integrated sustainability report. Cone will provide counsel on overall reporting strategy, structure, content and metrics.
